Our Story

Creating a Safe Space for All:

The Story of CMAG Safety & Defense and Equal Aim Gun Club

When Cathy and I started our journey into firearm ownership, we never imagined it would lead us here—to building CMAG Safety & Defense and Equal Aim Gun Club. But life has a way of showing you where you're needed, and for us, that meant creating a space where everyone—no matter who they are—can learn, train, and grow in confidence when it comes to self-defense.

CMAG Safety & Defense

CMAG Safety & Defense is part of The CMAG Group, a conglomerate of businesses owned by Cathy Mays and Dr. Angela Gustus. CMAG's overarching mission is to help people. We do so through the work of CMAG & Associates (our full-service consulting firm), CMAG Health Solutions (our licensed healthcare organization specializing in healthcare technology), The CMAG Foundation (a nonprofit research institute), and most recently, CMAG Safety & Defense (our safety training institute).

Founded in 2014, the CMAG team prides itself on providing high-quality services. CMAG Safety & Defense's training course uses only the best equipment. From classroom simulations to training pistols, our students will have numerous opportunities to become familiar with handling a firearm well before going to the range to shoot a live firearm.

Our mission is to provide firearm courses not only meet the Maryland State and USCCA standards, but exceed those requirements to ensure our students have a great experience. In addition to our general HQL and CCW courses, we also offer those courses specifically for women and/or members of the LBGTQ+ Community. We believe that ALL PEOPLE should be able to learn about firearms in a safe and welcoming environment.
